JAKARTA, investortrust.id — Chinese Premier Li Qiang has pledged deeper cooperation with Indonesia across key sectors including green economy, digital transformation, and advanced manufacturing, offering to share the fruits of China’s economic growth with its Southeast Asian partner.
Speaking at the 2025 Indonesia-China Business Reception in Jakarta on Saturday, May 24, Premier Li said Beijing was committed to opening up its economy further and creating a more welcoming investment environment for foreign businesses, including those from Indonesia.
“China is ready to share its growth potential and development opportunities with Indonesia and other countries,” Li said at the event, which was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto and senior business leaders from both countries.
The Chinese Premier emphasized the need to improve the quality and efficiency of global industrial and supply chains through collaboration, adding that China’s future growth will depend on strong regional partnerships.
Deepening Trade and Strategic Investment
Li underscored that trade relations between China and Indonesia have seen consistent growth in both volume and quality. China has remained Indonesia’s top trading partner for several years. In 2024, bilateral trade reached $147.8 billion, more than double the value recorded 12 years ago.
Products such as bird’s nests, coffee, and tropical fruits from Indonesia have gained popularity among Chinese consumers, further deepening market ties.
Li also pointed to the surge in Chinese investment in Indonesia. “China has ranked among the top three sources of foreign direct investment in Indonesia for nine consecutive years,” he noted, adding that several leading Chinese manufacturers have already set up operations in Indonesia.
One of the most prominent symbols of the countries’ industrial collaboration, he said, is the Jakarta–Bandung high-speed railway—built with Chinese technology—which has transported nearly 10 million passengers to date.
Strengthening Industrial and Technological Integration
Li called for expanded industrial integration and technological cooperation. China and Indonesia, he said, already have a strong foundation in infrastructure, energy, and agriculture, and should now scale up joint research and development efforts and share market resources.
He encouraged businesses to utilize regional economic corridors and strategic joint projects to broaden their reach and deepen their collaboration. “We hope that by working across the entire value chain, our two countries can grow together and build a more prosperous future,” he said.
Prabowo: Strategic Partnership Beyond Trade
President Prabowo Subianto, who also spoke at the reception, reaffirmed the strategic importance of Indonesia’s partnership with China. He recalled that China was the first country he officially visited after being inaugurated as president.
“This is a bilateral relationship that is strategic, important, and promising—and one that can shape peace and stability in our region,” Prabowo said.
The President emphasized that bilateral cooperation should go beyond trade and investment, encompassing broader areas including education, health, tourism, and science and technology.
Prabowo also highlighted China’s longstanding support for developing nations, particularly its vocal stance on Palestine. “China’s leadership in defending the Palestinian people is a source of pride for all of us,” he said.
Business Leaders Back Deeper Cooperation
The event also featured speeches from Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Anindya Bakrie and Chairman of the Kadin China Committee Garibaldi Thohir. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Kadin Indonesia and the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia to deepen strategic cooperation in trade and investment.
In closing, President Prabowo extended a fresh invitation to Chinese businesses to invest across various sectors in Indonesia, including industrial development, education, healthcare, tourism, and innovation.
“This is a partnership for a brighter future—one full of hope, prosperity, and peace for our region,” Prabowo said.
