JAKARTA, investortrust.id – More than 157 million people have chosen rail-based transportation in Indonesia in the first four months of 2025, reflecting rising public trust in the nation's railway infrastructure and services. The figure marks a 9% increase compared to the same period last year, as disclosed by state-owned operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia Group.
PT Kereta Api Indonesia, known as KAI Group, said it served 157,161,247 passengers from January to April 2025, up from 144,173,430 passengers during the same period in 2024. The group includes the parent company and several subsidiaries operating commuter, airport, tourism, and light rail train services.
“During January to April 2025, KAI Group recorded 157.16 million passengers, a 9.01% increase year-on-year,” said Anne Purba, Vice President of Public Relations at KAI, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Purba emphasized that the numbers are not merely statistical but represent the growing importance of rail transport in the daily lives of Indonesians—from workers relying on commuter lines to tourists exploring the archipelago and businesses depending on intercity and intermodal connectivity.
“The consistent increase in ridership across different segments underlines our commitment to building a reliable and inclusive public transportation network,” she said.
She further noted that KAI Group’s services are helping to not only bridge geographic distances, but also support productivity and economic empowerment across regions.
