VKTR Secures 80 Electric Bus Tender, Strengthens Lead in Jakarta’s Green Transport Shift

Main Takeaways

● VKTR won a tender to supply 80 electric buses to Transjakarta and DAMRI due to its compliance with a local content requirement exceeding 40 percent.

● The company’s CKD electric buses are assembled at its Magelang facility, which has an annual production capacity of 3,000 units.
● Since its 2023 IPO, VKTR has positioned itself as a key player in Indonesia’s push toward sustainable mobility, leveraging innovation and international collaboration.

JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Indonesian electric vehicle manufacturer PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk has secured a tender to supply 80 completely knocked down (CKD) electric buses to Jakarta’s public transport agency and a state-owned operator, reinforcing its market dominance in the capital’s public mobility transformation.

The award was granted by PT Transportasi Jakarta, Jakarta’s city-owned bus operator, and Perusahaan Umum DAMRI, Indonesia’s state-run transportation firm. The decision was based primarily on VKTR’s achievement in meeting the government-mandated minimum local content requirement of more than 40 percent for its CKD electric buses.

Gilarsi Wahju Setijono, President Director of VKTR, said the new fleet will be operated by DAMRI, building on the success of 20 VKTR buses already running in Jakarta under operator Sinar Jaya.

“With this latest order, VKTR will maintain its number one position in operating Transjakarta’s electric bus fleet, bringing the total to 152 units,” Gilarsi said in an official statement on Monday, May 5, 2025.

He emphasized that Transjakarta and DAMRI’s continued trust reflected their commitment to promoting domestic content and supporting job creation and industrial growth.

“Our CKD buses are the first and only ones in Indonesia to meet the government’s 40 percent TKDN threshold,” Gilarsi said, referring to the Tingkat Komponen Dalam Negeri policy—a requirement for local content in manufactured goods.

According to Gilarsi, this ongoing partnership also signals Indonesia’s readiness to join the global movement toward electrified mobility.

“We deeply appreciate Transjakarta’s confidence in extending this collaboration,” he said.

VKTR’s electric buses, Gilarsi added, contribute to reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable transportation. “We are proud to lead this transition and help Indonesians shift toward environmentally friendly public transport,” he said.

Since delivering its first electric commercial vehicle in 2022, VKTR has maintained its lead as a pioneer by building the first and only electric commercial vehicle CKD assembly facility in Indonesia. The plant, located in Magelang, Central Java, has an annual production capacity of 3,000 units.

Gilarsi noted that VKTR has remained committed to accelerating sustainable mobility through innovation and global partnerships since its listing on the Indonesia Stock Exchange on June 19, 2023. It was the first listed electric commercial vehicle firm in the country.

“This collaboration is a concrete step toward a more environmentally conscious and sustainable future,” he stated.

VKTR, Gilarsi concluded, is more than a transport provider. Along with its strategic partners, the company is driving a broader transformation. “We are building a new era of mobility—greener, smarter, and globally competitive,” he said.
