JAKARTA, investortrust.id—President Prabowo Subianto has witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia) and the China Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (CCCI), reaffirming a joint commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and business facilitation.
The MoU was signed by Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie and CCCI Chairman Sun Shangbin at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta on Saturday, May 24, 2025, ahead of the Indonesia-China Business Reception.
In one of its key provisions, the agreement acknowledges the enduring friendship and expanding economic ties between Indonesia and China. It also emphasizes the essential role chambers of commerce play in bridging the private sector and government institutions.
“The parties hereby reaffirm their mutual commitment to deepen strategic cooperation in trade, investment, and business facilitation,” reads a statement in the MoU.
The signing ceremony was attended by top officials including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia-China Committee Garibaldi Thohir, and CEO of sovereign wealth fund Danantara Indonesia Rosan Roeslani.
China’s Premier Li Qiang arrived in Jakarta earlier on Saturday for a three-day official visit and was the guest of honor at the Indonesia-China Business Reception. The reception gathered prominent Indonesian figures such as Minister for Investment and Downstreaming Bahlil Lahadalia, Chairman of the National Energy Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and other senior officials and business leaders.
The MoU was signed just prior to the evening banquet, where President Prabowo underscored China’s role as Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with annual trade exceeding $130 billion.
The deal also highlighted the broader economic context underpinning this partnership, with China recording the highest gross domestic product (GDP) growth among G20 member countries in the first quarter of 2025 and Indonesia following closely behind, reflecting the strength and potential of closer economic integration between the two nations.
The business reception began with opening remarks from Garibaldi Thohir, emphasizing the strategic importance of maintaining open dialogue and fostering partnerships between the Indonesian and Chinese business communities.
