JAKARTA, Investortrust.id — Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) has issued a stern warning to 36 private digital platforms—including Apple, Google Play, and other global giants—to register or update their company data or risk being blocked from operating in the country.
Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the ministry, said the notice refers to Ministerial Regulation No. 5 of 2020 on Private Electronic System Operators (PSE Privat), which mandates both domestic and foreign digital service providers to comply with Indonesian data registration laws.
“Every electronic system provider must register and ensure that their data is accurate. This is crucial for transparency and to uphold Indonesia’s digital sovereignty,” Alexander said in an official statement on Friday.
Registration and Data Update Required
Of the 36 platforms cited, 23 had yet to register, while 13 others had failed to update their existing records. According to Alexander, this initiative reflects the government’s increased oversight of digital platforms that operate in or target the Indonesian market.
The ministry previously carried out awareness campaigns and issued persuasive reminders, but it now plans to enforce penalties—ranging from administrative sanctions to full service blocking—if providers continue to neglect their obligations.
Under current regulations, all digital systems must be registered before being made available to the public. Operators must also update their data if there are changes in business ownership, services offered, or other relevant information.
Deadline Looms
PSEs are required to complete their registration through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Those already registered have been urged to reverify and update their information as necessary.
“This is not about restriction. It’s about building a disciplined and accountable digital ecosystem,” Alexander said, adding that accurate data helps strengthen digital governance and protects the public.
