JAKARTA, investortrust.id – Oracle, one of the world’s leading enterprise technology companies, has partnered with Indonesia to build the largest graphics processing unit (GPU) cluster in Southeast Asia. This major infrastructure initiative marks a pivotal step in Indonesia’s ambition to accelerate digital transformation and establish itself as a regional hub for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.
Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid said that Oracle is set to launch its public cloud region in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2025. The new cloud infrastructure will support large-scale AI workloads while ensuring the protection of national data sovereignty.
“We want Indonesia to become not just a user, but a center for AI development in Southeast Asia,” Meutya said after meeting with Oracle JAPAC Senior Vice President Chris Chelliah in Jakarta on Monday, May 5, 2025.
Oracle’s planned GPU cluster will comprise high-performance parallel processing units specifically designed to handle compute-intensive tasks such as training and running large AI models. The infrastructure will enable faster, more efficient, and energy-saving AI solution development, significantly reducing Indonesia’s reliance on overseas data centers.
GPU technology is essential in the era of generative AI and big data processing. The presence of this facility in Indonesia is expected to empower local startups and digital innovators by providing them with critical access to advanced computing resources.
Beyond infrastructure, Oracle has committed to delivering AI training programs for over 100,000 students, workers, and civil servants across Indonesia within the next three years.
“Oracle is not just bringing technology and investment,” said Chelliah. “We are building infrastructure tailored to meet Indonesia’s local needs.”
Oracle, which has operated in Indonesia for over 30 years, is now deepening its investment through the establishment of this massive GPU-powered public cloud region. The company envisions its technology supporting a wide array of sectors in Indonesia, including public services, education, and the creative economy.
To ensure a coordinated rollout, the Indonesian government and Oracle plan to establish a joint working group to develop a national AI roadmap in the coming months.
